Litter dynamics in a seasonally dry forest fragment

چکیده
Litter decomposition makes possible the nutrient cycling and is a link between vegetation soil, vital for healthy forest ecosystem. Although several studies on litter have been carried out in different regions of Brazil, there are few transitional zones Cerrado Caatinga, particularly state Piauí. Therefore, objective this work was to evaluate litterfall production, composition rate tropical dry fragment located southeast region Piauí, Brazil. Monthly dynamics were evaluated one year, by placing traps center six inventory permanent sample plots, determined litterbag technique. Litterfall production estimated at 4,401.7 kg ha-1 year-1, similar Caatinga environment values, with leaves fraction contributing highest percentage (64%). On other hand, 0.003 g day-1, rates found environments, highlighting importance better understand ecozone dynamics. Wind speed had significative correlation production. The number species plot rate, diameter growth dendrometric variable most correlated

Effects of experimental fires on litter decomposition in a seasonally dry Amazonian forest
Litter decomposition is a fundamental process for nutrient cycling but we have a limited understanding of this process in disturbed tropical forests. We studied litter decomposition over a 10-mo period in a seasonally dry Amazon forest in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The study plots (50 ha each) included unburned forest (UF), once-burned (BF1) and forest burned annually for 3 y (BF3). We measured under...
متن کاملEffects of Forest Gaps on Litter Lignin and Cellulose Dynamics Vary Seasonally in an Alpine Forest
To understand how forest gaps and the associated canopy control litter lignin and cellulose dynamics by redistributing the winter snow coverage and hydrothermal conditions in the growing season, a field litterbag trial was conducted in the alpine Minjiang fir (Abies faxoniana Rehder and E.H. Wilson) forest in a transitional area located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the eastern ...
متن کاملEcology and diversity of leaf litter fungi during early-stage decomposition in a seasonally dry tropical forest
Leaf litter samples of 12 dicotyledonous tree species (belonging to eight families) growing in a dry tropical forest and in early stages of decomposition were studied for the presence of litter fungi. Equal-sized segments of the leaves incubated in moist chambers were observed every day for 30 d for the presence of fungi. Invariably, the fungal assemblage on the litter of each tree species was ...
متن کاملCommercial tree regeneration 6 years after high- intensity burns in a seasonally dry forest in Bolivia
The effects of three site-preparation treatments (high-intensity burn, low-intensity burn, and mechanical cleaning with machetes and chainsaws) on the regeneration of commercial tree species, composition and structure of competing vegetation, and soil chemical and structural properties were evaluated in a seasonally dry forest in southeast Bolivia. Six years after controlled burns, the high-int...
متن کاملFires in Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest: Testing the Varying Constraints Hypothesis across a Regional Rainfall Gradient
The "varying constraints hypothesis" of fire in natural ecosystems postulates that the extent of fire in an ecosystem would differ according to the relative contribution of fuel load and fuel moisture available, factors that vary globally along a spatial gradient of climatic conditions. We examined if the globally widespread seasonally dry tropical forests (SDTFs) can be placed as a single enti...
